Halloween Costume Party 2008

Sat having a coffee with Mk, relating tales from our recent parties, we both agreed that it had been a couple of months since the “gang” had got together and we both agreed that we should have a party. Not a sit down party, but a party where everyone is involved, singing, dancing, whatever, a party that people would talk about for a long time. The best parties we could remember were fancy dress parties, where the “ice is broken” immediately and in more ways than one (!) The theme ? Obviously, with October 31st only a few weeks away – my & Mk’s Halloween Costume Party 2008 would be on everyone’s calendar !

The problem with fancy dress parties is always the Costumes – do you make it yourself, if you’re that way inclined and can find the materials or do you buy it ready made. Well, in Mk’s case, it’s “once bitten, twice shy”. A few years ago, his drag for a fancy dress party was a mummy – just a pair of white boxer shorts, a box of safety pins and 30 bandages covering the rest of his body. Well, I don’t need to tell you that safety pins are not as safe as they’re made out to be and before long the bandages of his costume were trailing, much to the amusement of the girls!

Online, we decided to look for inspiration and found some great ideas and tips. Planning a Halloween Party, you tend to forget about halloween costume safety, but it’s worth taking a few precautions to prevent un-expected disasters happening.

Mk found what he was looking for, Mummy Man will walk again – a great costume, better price and certainly less painful or embarrassing .

This time I will be a little more daring ( and got the legs to pull it off ) and decided to go as a Angel Fairy and found a low cut dress with shoulder tatters, belt, apron, wings, halo, headpiece and fairy wand – the complete set. Not sure what a fairy’s doing at a Halloween party, but it’s probably a good idea to have someone to ward off the evil spirits.

We also bought a couple of straight jackets – compulsory use for any party pooper that turns up without Halloween costumes.

Can’t wait until October 31st, maybe we’ll have a dress rehearsal when the costumes arrive.
